One of the major reasons that I created Blue Ridge Rifle was to fill the need for hunting weapons that specifically fit women. All too often, I see a woman taken to the range and given a full-sized 12-gauge shotgun that is nearly impossible for her to hold correctly while some idiot laughs at her inability to handle the resulting recoil. Or I see the opposite, where someone “mansplains” at the gun-counter to a woman (or worse, talks to the woman through the nearest man), telling them that they need to hunt with a lesser chambering to be able to handle the recoil while trying to sell her a youth model rifle that still does not fit. I can’t believe I have to say this: women are not children, and they have different dimensions than men, requiring a different gunfit. Painting a youth rifle pink does not make it a capable tool for a woman to put meat on the table. Also, as a personal note, my wife can soak up a lot more recoil than I can. Proper gunfit is a problem that needs to be solved for most women, not the recoil.
The rare times that I’ve seen legitimate hunting rifles claiming to fit women, they have always been more costly than their counterparts meant for men. This “pink tax” is something that spurred me into business. At Blue Ridge Rifle, I make serious guns to fit any shooter and feel that there is no good reason to charge more for something based on gender.
If you are a woman who has been hunting and want something that fits perfectly, or if you are a new hunter that wants to get off on the right foot, feel free to reach out. I am more than happy to help you.
